From The Birthplace of Coffee
Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee. The legend of the discovery of coffee starts with a goat herder, Kaldi, who noticed his goats became more energetic and would not sleep after eating the berries from a certain tree. Excited, Kaldi went to show his wife saying it was “heaven sent”. She advised him to show the monks at the monetary. One of the monks believed this plant to be “the Devil’s work” and threw them on the fire. The smell from the beans roasting in the fire was so good the monk pulled some out of the embers, crushed them up with their hands and put it in some hot water. And the love of drinking coffee was born.
Whether the story is true or not, we’re glad someone figured out how to roast and drink delicious coffee beans!
